Choosing the Right Holder

It is very important that you think about the size of loop that you will need for your eyeglasses. They must slide easily in and out of the loop without twisting or getting caught. Pewter is a soft metal and can bend on some more fragile designs. The arm of the glasses must go all the way down to the hinge in order for the glasses to be secure. Bend over and make sure the glasses swing freely out. We cannot control the way that you put the glasses into the holders that you purchase, nor the size of them. For that reason, we cannot be held responsible for glasses that are lost. I think in nine years, we have only had two incidents reported to us.

All holders can hold the clip type ID badges or the reel type. Just be careful and open the clip on the reel wide and slide the loop into it. This prevents bending of the pewter. You should now never have to take the holder off of the reel. The magnet will hold securely, even if you are pulling on it to swipe the card.

Care of Magnets

The magnets used are super strong Neodymium discs, sometimes referred to as “Rare-Earth Magnets”. They are one of the most powerful magnets available today. These magnets are not toys and should not be given to children to play with. They can be dangerous if misused as they are very fragile. Ours have a protective coating of nickel which can chip off with repeated abuse such as holding the magnet and holder far apart and letting the magnets jump to each other. With gentle care, the magnets can last for years. If you ever need a replacement, we have them on-line for purchase. I do not know of any store in which you can find them. If you lose one, look somewhere metal… washing machine drum, table or chair leg etc.

Do not use these magnets if you have a PACEMAKER, As with all magnets, keep them away from credit cards, floppy disks, CRT computer monitors and television screens.

Caring for Your Holders

The holders have a protective coating which is used on car engines to prevent tarnishing. You can use a jeweler’s cloth or just some warm soapy water to clean them. The finish varies on the holders depending on how long they were in the acid bath. Some look very shiny, where as some may be more antique looking.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments!
